Domestic Animals
Companion animals, such as cats and dogs and other domestic animals, offer residents companionship and multiple benefits that improve our quality of life.
Coonamble Shire Council encourages responsible pet ownership and has a range of services and information relating to animals and pets.
In addition to relevant legislation, Council has the following local policies and plans to help with the management of domestic animals:

Hiring of Cat and Dog Traps
Council offers the hiring of cat and dog traps which includes a security deposit and hire fee. Refer to Council’s fees and charges for further details. Contact Council on (02) 6827 1900 to organise hire.
Council’s Off-Leash Area
Council currently has one off-leash area within the town limits. This is located behind Macdonald Park and can be accessed from Pages Terrace. The area is fully fenced to ensure the protection of your animal and the public, however, this does not exempt the owner from ensuring that the dog is “under effective control” at all times. The owner is also required to remove and dispose of the dog’s faeces.
